- Punched galvanised slat, mixed options
- Openings to 6 000mm wide
A perforated roller shutter door closes an opening while still letting light and air through it. Around Vanderbijlpark the ventilation case is usually stronger than the display one, because a great many buildings here have to be locked without being sealed.
How a perforated roller shutter door is built
- Punched or grille-pattern slats in steel or aluminium, in a range of open areas.
- Standard guides and locking, so the security specification is unchanged from a solid door.
- Mixed curtains with a solid lower section and perforated upper where security and airflow both matter.
- Powder-coated finishes matched to the building.
Ventilation on hot-process bays
Heat produced inside a building has to go somewhere, and closing an opening with a solid curtain traps it against the roof and against the people working under it. A perforated curtain secures the bay and lets the heat move, and on those openings the open area is chosen against the heat load rather than picked from a catalogue.
Welding bays, compressor rooms and charging areas
Welding and fabrication bays, compressor housings, switch rooms and forklift charging areas all need to be locked and ventilated at the same time. Charging areas in particular have a genuine ventilation requirement, and a perforated shutter is usually the simplest way to meet it.
Perforated shutters for retail
Shops at Vaal Mall and along the trading streets use perforated curtains so the display still sells overnight. A closed shop with a lit window is a different business from a closed shop behind a solid steel sheet.
A caution about dust
Perforation lets air through and it will also let airborne dust through. On a building where the point of closing the door is to keep ferrous dust off stock or machinery, a perforated curtain is the wrong choice and we will say so and quote a solid door with proper ventilation instead.
Parking and access control openings
Basement and staff parking entrances use perforated shutters so drivers and security can see through the door. Visibility at an access point is a safety feature as much as a convenience.
Security of a perforated curtain
The perforation is in the slat face; the strength is in the slat section, the end locks, the guide depth and the bottom rail. A properly specified perforated door secures an opening as well as a solid one. On street frontages we run a solid lower section and perforate above reach.
Choosing the open area
More open area means more light and airflow and a lighter door. Less means more privacy and a more solid appearance. We show samples rather than quote percentages.
